As a city alive with culture, Glasgow hosts a number of annual festivals. Ranging from film to comedy to music, Glasgow is the premier festival city in Scotland. Below are just some of the festivals which take place in Glasgow throughout the year

One of the first, and biggest, festivals of the year in Glasgow is Celtic Connections. Spread over January and February many of the events are televised nationally. The festival is a celebration of all things Celtic and attracts performers and audiences from all around the word. Stretched across 14 venues this is a fantastic festival and a must for all music fans

The Glasgow Film Festival takes place in February every year and showcases some of the best independent films from around the globe. With special screenings with introductions by writers and directors, this is an extraordinary event. For fans of nostalgia, anniversary screenings of classics can be found in the calendar too. A wonderful festival for film fans

The Magners Glasgow International Comedy Festival takes place each year in March. With events all across the city in a host of interesting venues it is one of the largest festivals of its kind in Scotland. With more and more top acts each year this is definitely a festival to look out for

The Aye Write Book Festival, taking place in March, is the premier book festival in Scotland. Attracting big name authors who perform readings and sign autographs, this is a wonderful opportunity for the literary world to celebrate its heroes

The Glasgow Music Festival is approaching its centenary, showing what a fantastic event it is. Taking place every March since 1911 the festival attracts over 7000 performers each year. This is a fantastic event which showcases an array of musical styles, exposing the wealth of talent within the city

The West End festival takes place every year and has been held annually for over a decade. Growing in support every year, this festival continues to get bigger and better. The opening parade features dancers and performers from all around the world. The festival takes place in June and hosts a number of free and ticketed performances

The Glasgow International Jazz festival is another event which continues to grow and grow each year. With top Jazz acts from all around the globe taking part, this is truly a unique event. Taking place in June this is a true feel good festival

The last of the major festivals is the Glasgow World Pipe Band Championships held in August. The Championships have been on the go since 1930 and are a major event within the Piping community. A spectacular, and highly prestigious, event to entertain all the family
