What's On In Glasgow

What’s on in Glasgow? ‘What’s not on’ might be a better question, in a city of great vibrancy and diversity.

Major forthcoming events near the hotel include the superb West End Festival.

For a comprehensive list of what’s on at the SECC, look at www.secc.co.uk

An excellent compendium of events can also be found on www.glasgow.gov.uk

where you can select events by type, category, name, date, type of audience, and there is a helpdesk. There is a basic What's On in the city and a City Live events listing.

There is a Map of the City Centre and a good illustrated History from St Mungo to the present day. Factsheets also provide details of Historical Development and Population plus Education and Housing. There is also a page on the Peoples Palace. And for those who want to see what is happening, live, in the city's main square, there's a George Square Webcam.

Sport

European football’s spectators thoughts have already turned to 16th May 2007 – the date on which Glasgow and Hampden Park will host next season’s UEFA Cup Final.

Speaking from Eindhoven, SFA Chief Executive, David Taylor commented, “The Royal Netherlands FA, PSV Eindhoven and the City of Eindhoven have worked hard to deliver a wonderful platform for the UEFA Cup Final, and we look forward to the opportunity of emulating that success in Glasgow next year.

To be awarded a major European final by UEFA for the second time in 5 years clearly reaffirms the status of Scotland, Glasgow and the Scottish FA as a major event destination, host and organiser.

The chief executive of EUFA said ‘Most importantly, football is made up of memories, of passion and of emotion and we know that in coming to Scotland and to Glasgow that we will get this in abundance.’

Glaagow is well and truly the football capital of the capital of football – Scotland!

Situated in the heart of the city, The Glasgow Royal Concert Hall is Scotland's premier music venue offering a wide variety of performances and events.

The Hall plays host to the very best in classical, world music and popular entertainment and is home to the Royal Scottish National Orchestra who offer performances throughout the year. The Hall also produces the world famous Celtic Connections Festival every January.

Opened in 1990 as part of the city's tenure as European City of Culture, it was built to replace the St Andrews Hall (now the site of the Mitchell Library) which was destroyed in a fire in 1964. It comprises two halls, a larger main hall with a capacity of 2500 while the Strathclyde Suite accommodates 500. Within the venue, refreshments are available from the cafe bar and Green Room Restaurant.
